Are you sure you connect power cord to your laptop computer correctly? If you didn’t read any manual that come with your own laptop computer carefully, you have high chance to connect it wrong.

Most laptop computer have power cord connector and AC Adapter connected together to use as external power supply connector. However, many people have not known there are different between two connecting methods to connect power to wall sockets, first, connect power cord to wall socket and then connect AC Adapter’s jack to laptop computer, and second, connect AC adapter’s jack to laptop computer and then connect power cord to wall socket.

There is instruction in almost every laptop computer’s manuals that printed the correct way to connect external power that most people neglect. The correct method is connect power cord to wall socket first and connect AC Adapter to Laptop computer second. If you not do in the opposite way of correct method, you may noticed when you plug in the power cord to the wall socket directly before connect AC adapter to laptop computer, it often occur electrical sparking. This situation can harm your laptop computer circuit board or reduce your laptop computer life time.

The correct method to connect laptop to external power will prevent your laptop computer from power surge that may harm your laptop computer and extend your laptop computer life. There is lower chance to have any spark between AC adapter’s jack and laptop computer because power output from AC adapter’s jack is low voltage (around 10-20 volts) and there is electric filter circuit in AC Adapter to save your laptop computer too.
