MXM abbreviated of “Mobile PCI-Express” this name originated from Laptop Graphic Video card interface connected with PCI-Express Bus. This is a new laptop computers architecture that have 16 lanes bus which use to be data super highways between GPU and Laptop mainboard. MXM Technology help to reduced data bottle-neck and reduce overall laptop computers temperature. In additional, it’s support modern interface standards included DVI, HMDI.

An advantage of MXM chipsets is changeably chipset interface but most of today laptop computers haven’t have changeable graphic card slots. There are 3 versions of MXM standard presently that have been improved many parts such shape, temperature and performance.

So, MXM is the technology for upgradeable Laptop computers. Especially, Gaming laptop computers is the most required(Read more about gaming Laptop here). Someday, we will not worry to buy a laptop computers can’t play a new 3D games that require faster graphic card. However, there are not many laptop supported MXM technology because of a number of problem as..

  1. Shape of Graphic card – Laptop must design for internal laptop space of MXM standard
  2. Ventilating – suitable ventilating design
  3. Warrant issue -  user upgrade by self allowance from laptop computer companies

However, MXM technology will be popular in near future. Prepare to meet it!

    Hi, Per Bonde.

Their is many good nVidia card that compatible with Siemens Amilo M4438G like 8800M, 9500M, 9600M ,9600M, etc. series.

9600M GT is one of the best graphics that support a DirectX 10. It’s the successor of 8600M GT. Compared to the previous 8600M GT or 9500M GS, the 9600M GT was produced in 65nm technology(better power saving / high performance) and power consumption is around 23 Watt. It also has Hybrid-Power support to help you save your battery lift time. The performance of the 9600M GT should be somewhere between the 9500M GS and the 8700M GT (depends if GDDR2 or GDDR3 memory chips are used). I have checked it’s price on E-bay about $210 USD.
